In April, therefore, one of these air-purifying plants takes center stage as 'Plant of the Month': the Kentia palm.
Origins
The Howea forsteriana, also known as the Kentia palm, is a graceful palm with dark green, pinnate leaves. This tropical palm originated on Lord Howe Island in the Pacific Ocean. During the 19th century, the first seeds of the Kentia were sent to England. Here it became such a popular plant that more and more people wanted to bring this palm into their homes. Eventually the popularity of the Kentia grew tremendously and since then you can find this palm in interiors, offices and public places around the world.
Within the air-purifying Air So Pure assortment ou will find the Kentia palm in many different sizes from our member Blom KENTIA palmen. This grower grows the Kentia in 8 different pot sizes for Air So Pure. This makes it possible to find a suitable palm for every space. Whether you want an air-purifying palm in the office, in your bathroom or in the classroom, the Kentia is always suitable!
Air-purifying powers
In addition to its graceful appearance, the Kentia Palm is known for its ability to improve air quality. Like all Air So Pure plants, the Kentia uses photosynthesis to convert carbon dioxide into oxygen.
In addition, the Kentia has the ability to remove harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde, benzene and trichloroethylene from the air. These substances can come from everyday products such as paints, furniture and household cleaners.
By absorbing these pollutants, the Kentia Palm helps improve air quality, creating a healthier and cleaner living environment. As a result, you enjoy many benefits, including better concentration, increased creativity and fewer health complaints.

Taking care of the Kentia
The Kentia is a strong houseplant with fairly simple care. To enjoy your Kentia even longer, here are some tips for caring for the Kentia, Air Purifying Plant of the Month April.
- Light: The Kentia is a relatively easy plant without too many requirements. Do you place it in a shady spot? Fine! But a light spot is also possible. Make sure there is not too much direct sunlight on the spot, this can burn the leaves.
- Water: Water the Kentia moderately and make sure the soil does not get too soggy. Exactly how much water should you give the Kentia? For a palm taller than one meter you can think of 1.5 to 2 liters of water per week, Kentia palms lower than one meter should be given approximately 1 to 1.5 liters of water per week. Start with small amounts per watering so you can control how much water your palm needs.
- Humidity: Because the Kentia is a tropical plant, it appreciates a little extra attention to humidity. So spray some water over the leaves occasionally to keep them healthy, clean and moist. A good alternative is to place a bowl of water next to the Kentia. The water will evaporate, increasing the humidity around the Kentia.
- Repotting: In principle you (almost) do not need to repot the Kentia. These palms grow slowly and repotting creates a risk of damage.
- Nutrition: As with many plants we recommend regular feeding of the Kentia palm during spring and summer. This promotes the growth and health of this air-purifying houseplant.
Is the Kentia poisonous?
The Howea forsteriana, or Kentia palm, is not poisonous to pets or humans. Nevertheless, it is not recommended to eat this palm.
